What this site stores in your browser, who sets it, why, and how to change your mind. Short list, honestly described.
How consent works here
On your first visit to this site on a given browser, a banner at the bottom of the page asks you to Accept or Decline. Until you choose, and if you choose Decline, advertising storage is denied. Nothing on this site needs you to accept anything in order to read it.
Your answer is saved in your browser, in a localStorage item named vr_consent, as either granted or denied. It is stored on your device only; our server never receives it. Because it lives in your browser, the choice applies to that browser on that device, and a different browser or device will ask again.
You can change your choice at any time. The button below, and the Cookie settings button in the footer of every page, both do the same thing: they erase the stored item and reload the page, so the banner appears again.
Global Privacy Control
Our script checks whether your browser is sending the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If it is, and you have not yet made a choice on this device, we record denied for you automatically and skip the banner. If you had already clicked Accept before turning GPC on, that stored answer stays until you press Cookie settings; once the page reloads with no stored answer, the signal is honored. We treat GPC as an opt-out from the advertising measurement described below.
If your browser blocks site storage entirely (some private-browsing modes do), we cannot save your answer. The banner will then appear on each page, and advertising storage stays denied unless you click Accept on that page.
What Decline changes, and what it does not
The Microsoft Advertising UET script is loaded on every page of this site regardless of your choice, with advertising storage set to denied before you decide. That means a network request to Microsoft's measurement domain happens on every page load either way. Your choice does not switch the tag off; it tells the tag what it may store and read. With consent denied, Microsoft's published rules say the tag does not read or write first-party advertising cookies, does not write Microsoft's third-party cookies, and reads third-party cookies only for fraud and spam detection. Microsoft also states that it still receives anonymized, aggregated data in that state. We would rather describe the tag exactly than call it "off until you click Accept," because that is not what happens.

The Microsoft items are the ones Microsoft itself lists as subject to consent. Their lifetimes are set by Microsoft, can be long (many months for the visitor identifiers), and can change without notice to us; Microsoft's own privacy statement is the authoritative description. The Cloudflare items depend on which of Cloudflare's protective features are active for this site at a given moment.

- Strictly necessary / technical:
__cf_bmandcf_clearance. They keep the site reachable and are not gated by the banner because they do not track you across sites. - Preference:
vr_consent. It stores your own answer. Without it we would have to ask on every page. - Advertising and measurement: the Microsoft items. Set or read only after you click Accept, subject to the limits described above when consent is denied.
What is not on this site
There is no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no TikTok or other social pixel, no embedded social widgets, no chat widget, no A/B-testing script and no session recording. Our fonts are served from our own server, not from a font network. Product photos are hosted by us. The Amazon links are plain links; nothing from Amazon loads on our pages before you click.
Browser controls
Beyond the buttons on this site, your browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data, and many browsers or extensions can send the Global Privacy Control signal for you. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser will stop Microsoft's third-party identifiers even if you clicked Accept. Everything on this site still loads if cookies are blocked.

If we add or remove a cookie or storage item, we will update the table above and the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
